Project Overview
Client: UK Bacon Processing Facility
Sector: Food Manufacturing
System Installed: Heavy-Duty Quartz Resin Flooring
Area Covered: 200m²
Additional Works: New Stainless Steel Drain Installation
Installation Time: 1 Day
Return to Service: 1 Hour After Completion
The Challenge
The client’s production area was operating on an ageing polyurethane (PU) floor that had deteriorated over time.
Issues included:
-
Worn surface in high-traffic areas
-
Hygiene concerns in wash-down zones
-
Drainage limitations
-
Surface inconsistencies affecting cleaning efficiency
In a busy bacon processing facility, downtime had to be kept to an absolute minimum. The client required a full floor refurbishment that would not interrupt production schedules.

The Solution
We prepared the existing PU floor through mechanical grinding to ensure optimal adhesion.
Rather than removing the entire substrate, we installed a high-performance quartz resin flooring system directly over the prepared surface, significantly reducing disruption and waste.
In addition, we installed a new stainless steel drainage system to improve wash-down performance and hygiene control.
System Features
-
Seamless quartz finish
-
Slip-resistant aggregate
-
Suitable for wet food production environments
-
Chemical resistant
-
Heavy-duty traffic capable
-
Fully cured in 60 minutes
The entire 200m² area was completed in a single day shift.
The floor was handed back ready for use just one hour after final installation.
Installation Process
1. Surface Preparation
Mechanical grinding of the existing PU floor to create a strong mechanical key.

2. Drain Installation
Removal of existing drainage section and installation of new stainless steel channel drain.

3. Quartz Resin Application
Application of heavy-duty quartz system designed for food-grade industrial environments.

4. Completed Floor
Seamless, hygienic, slip-resistant finish suitable for high-output food production.

The Result
-
Fully upgraded hygienic flooring system
-
Improved drainage performance
-
Reduced slip risk
-
Minimal disruption to operations
-
Zero multi-day shutdown
-
Long-term durability under heavy wash-down conditions
Production resumed one hour after completion.
Why This Matters for Food Production Facilities
In meat processing and food manufacturing environments:
-
Hygiene compliance is critical
-
Surfaces must withstand aggressive cleaning regimes
-
Slip resistance is essential
-
Downtime costs money
Fast-curing resin systems allow flooring upgrades without extended shutdown periods.
